The towns of Telluride and Mountain Village are linked by a spectacular, 12-minute ride on a free gondola—the first and only free public transportation system of its kind in the United States. This popular scenic attraction provides access to hiking and biking trails in the summer and the ski slopes in the winter. Passengers can load the gondola in either Mountain Village or Telluride and ride to the midway point (Station St. Sophia from which hiking, biking and ski trails are accessed) and then continue on to the other side.
A must do hike, one of our favorites and super easy access from downtown Telluride. Access the trail from the end of South Pine Street. Hike or bike the dirt road through the 325-acre Bear Creek Preserve. A steady 2-mile climb leads to upper Bear Creek Falls and connects to the Wasatch Trail and Bridal Veil Basin.
Just 12 blocks long and eight blocks wide, Telluride is easily navigated on foot and a fabulous way to while away a few hours on your vacation. The downtown core is a National Historic Landmark District. As you stroll the sidewalks and pop into trendy boutiques, gift shops and locally owned restaurants, admire the 19th-century red-brick buildings and pastel-colored Victorian homes
The outdoor market takes place every Friday on south Oak street. The market features organic fruits and vegetables, pasture raised meats, eggs, and cheese, artisan bread and baked goods, an array of delicious concessions and expert locally made crafts. All products are grown or created within 100 miles of Telluride.
Ouray Hot Springs are just a 1-hour drive from Telluride. There are 3 pools: hot, warm and cool, where you can exercise by swimming lengths. You can go from one pool to the other with ease.
